Kiona Tejan Jenkins
Kiona Tejan Jenkins was diagnosed with both a Teratoma and Germinoma brain tumor October 17, 2002. She endured a 12 hour brain surgery; which was only successful in extracting 50% of the golf ball sized mass. Before beginning four months of intense chemotherapy and 30 cycles of cranium/spinal radiation treatments an MRI scan revealed that the tumor had grown to 10% larger than its original size prior to surgery. Despite all of her challenges, Kiona remained brave and determined to beat this disease. Her positive attitude, even after being diagnosed with a relapse in January 2005, was a testament of her uplifting spirit. She remained an advocate for cancer survivorship and inspired our mission to bring awareness relating to cancer survivorship issues. Although Kiona won her battle with brain cancer, the long term effects of her treatments ultimately proved to be more than she could bare. Kiona gained her wings in Heaven January 24, 2006, twelve days before her 12th birthday.
